The Blog

We’re collectively cycling the length of Aotearoa…all 25 of us.

This is where you’ll find accounts of our trials and tribulations, victories and struggles. Follow us as our existences ricochet from the highs of carbo-loading on mountains of moussaka, to the lows of grazed knees and chaffing. From Bluff to Picton and Cape Reinga to Wellington, one way or another, we’re finishing the Inaugural Tour of New Zealand.

Click a blog entry from the menu at left to follow our journey.
We’ll be bringing you updates from different members of Team Hikurangi each day until 21 April.

We’ve split our team into two crews, one on the North Island and one on the South.  Both crews are cycling simultaneously from 14-20 April, starting from Cape Rienga or Bluff and then meeting in the middle in Wellington on the 21st. Two crews equals two blog updates daily!

Beyond keeping you updated on important matters like what we’ve had for breakfast each day, we also hope to share a useful swag of information, including views and commentary on the state of cycling and transport culture in New Zealand; and as we’ll be writing each night after having ridden 100km, we can pretty much guarantee some “unique” insight.

There is probably not a day that each of New Zealand’s 4 million+ citizens does not require transport (except those particularly lazy Saturdays that I hope we all still have)!  Thus transport is an issue that isn’t going to go away.  This being the case - can we see areas it could be improved?  And if so what are we doing about those?

To start the debate here is some cycling-related…
