Kaikohe Community Cycleway

Kaikohe is a community in Northland that is right next to the proposed Hokianga to Opua quick start cycle route of the National Cycleway.  Experts close to the cycleway process are emphatic that a key element of making the cycleways “sing” is local community involvement and the unique cultural experience that the community can offer visiting cyclists.

With a huge economic development opportunity in having a quick start cycleway right on the doorstep, Kaikohe community leaders are keen for the town and the surrounding district to rise to the challenge. With support from Hikurangi, Kaikohe Community Trust and the Tindall Foundation, the Kaikohe Community will be able to do just that.  Resources will be offered to help build community enterprise, to create a remarkable local brand and to encourage increased low carbon tourism.
