Little Greenie
Little Greenie is New Zealand’s most energy efficient house. It was the idea of one Kiwi who just wanted to build a low maintenance simple and warm house. He did just that and in the process, outclassed all the experts.
The Hikurangi Foundation recognised the need for New Zealanders to learn from this example, and bought together the right people within the building sector to complete a performance analysis of Little Greenie with Lawrence McIntyre (the house owner), Verney Ryan (a housing analyst) and EECA. The report assesses and documents a range of sustainability, livability and practicality criteria in order to have verifiable facts as the basis for any future work in promoting the house and the philosophy behind it.
We are proud to announce the full report is available now, download here (800kb).

“I have talked with many national organisations about analyzing Little Greenie’s costs and they all thought it was a good idea and wanted to do it but … I found I would have to drive it. A week later Hikurangi rang and said let’s do it, which was all it took for the other organizations to join in. … This was like a breath of fresh air and inspired me to keep going. Thank you.” ~ Lawrence McIntyre.
